It's either life....or death

Here in sunny Queensland, Australia, the state government is going to be hit with a Bill in parliament to decriminalise abortion.

Now I'm a Catholic and definitely "pro-life", but I'm going to present my logic from a non-religious point of view. Even if you aren't Christian, at least hear me out!

FACT 1: Life begins at conception

  • The majority of people would agree that a foetus is a human being at 40 weeks (duh!). That's because it's pretty much a baby, just living on the other side of a mother's skin :)
  • So then, how far back can you go? Did you know that even as early as 23 weeks, a foetus is a totally viable baby? Science can have the baby out and in a humidity crib and the baby can be totally fine.
  • Then if the foetus is a human at 23 weeks, how much earlier can you go? Pretty much this last question leads you to the result that the foetus is a human being right from conception. As soon as the egg is fertilised, it's a human being, it's just a matter of time as to how developed it is.

FACT 2: "Pro-choice" = the ability to choose life or death

If you follow on from Fact 1, then those that advocate "pro-choice" are actually saying "we have the right to choose whether to kill or not to kill this human".

And if you follow that line of thought, what's the difference between that and killing a child or adult? The answer is that there isn't any.

"Pro-choice" argues that it's about giving the woman the choice with her body. They have a whole range of arguments that I would like to respectfully question:

  1. "What if the woman's life is in danger if the baby is carried full term?" I would answer that no human is worth more than another. Aborting a child to save the mother is saying that the mother's life is worth more than the child.
  2. "What if the foetus is a result of rape, incest, etc.?" Quite simply, I'd say that two wrongs do not make a right. The answer to an act of violence is not further violence.
  3. "The woman has a right to her own body." This is an even weaker argument than 1. above. It speaks of society's view that comfort and pleasure rank above everything else.
  4. "What if the woman can't afford to raise a child or would be bringing the child into a violent family?" It's a crazy idea that you should kill an unborn child for this reason. The answer is to provide more resources and support for such women, not to abort the child.

I have spent some time thinking about this topic from a factual, logical point of view. I struggle with the "pro-choice" argument, as I can't find the facts and basis that support it.

I hope you the reader also spend a few moments thinking about this. Unfortunately, you're either pro-life or pro-choice - there isn't any middle ground. The alternatives are either life.....or death.

Having said all that, from a Catholic and a Christian standpoint, the sanctity of life is paramount. Through Jesus, anything can be accomplished. I'm hoping that we can change society's view on this subject.

God Made Me Do It!!!!

Welcome!!!

I've been praying about this for about a year now and it's finally come to pass!

I'm planning on writing all my "God thoughts" in this blog, while praying that the Holy Spirit will lead those people who need to read these words to this blog.

God Bless
